Boiler Inspection and de-scaling service

BOILER INSPECTION SERVICE
Water treatment is critical to ensure the correct operation of boiler water systems.

Understanding the effects of boiler water treatment is imperative, since water based corrosion, fouling and scaling impacts on:-

a) Safety
b) Correct operation & efficiency.
c) BS 2486 compliance
d) Steam quality
e) Process operations

For these reasons the boiler inspection forms part of the Feedwaters core valued added service.

There are 7 key elements involved in the Feedwater boiler inspection, listed below. (The inspection differs and is tailored for each boiler type pending on: size, type, evidence of problems).

1. Safety compliance
Before any inspection, safety considerations are always paramount. Feedwater
water treatment consultants use site permits to work and internal Feedwater quality procedures to ensure strict safety guidelines are adhered to. Informing site shift managers before entry is a strict must, as is a stand-by man.

2.Boiler blowdown valves & Steam lines
Blowdown valves and steam lines are checked for isolation and evidence of scale, corrosion or fouling.

3.Steam Drum
Checked for evidence of scale, corrosion and fouling. Lose deposits on walls and tubes are checked. The risers and down-comers are checked for sludge and fouling. The steam baffling is checked for tightness and deposits.

The water line is checked for level fluctuations and priming . The feedwater line can also be inspected for any obvious signs of corrosion or blockages. Steam drum bell ends are checked. The feedwater pipe is checked for continuous blowdown and the chemical feedline for deposits or corrosion.

4. Firebox
Checks are made for blistering, warping and unusual irregularities. Deposition and odd variations in the surface could indicate poor heat transfer. Some idea of flame pattern indicates potential over heat areas.

5. Mud-drum
The mud-drum is inspected for sludge . All visible tubes are checked and chip scale and any deposits restricting flow.

6. First second, third pass tubes
Inspection is normally carried out internally is possible. evidence of scale, corrosion and fouling is observed

7. Economisers and super heaters
If present they are inspected for signs of oxygen corrosion and deposits.

Once the boiler inspection is complete a inspection report is completed, listing observations and solutions to possible problematic areas. The report is reviewed with relevant plant personnel and report left with site. This detailed (optional ) service is a must for all boiler plant operations

BOILER DESCALE SERVICE

Feedwater support services include the provision of boiler system descale service and an on-line water treatment chemical descale program.

The descale service utilises laboratory testing and analysis. The resultant analysis determines type and process of chemical descale. A team of people are employed to carry out the descale. Resultant success is determined by inspection.

The on-line chemical descale is a unique chemistry, applied with existing boiler chemistry and provides a clean way of removing scale with out the need for a complete acid descale. This saves time, cost and reduces potential costly plant outages.

For more information of the above services please call Feedwater.
