Bromgard

Bromgard is a range of novel cooling water products that combine state of the art corrosion and scale control inhibitors with bromine biocide in an easy to use liquid package.
In the last few years the increasing concern about legionnaires’ disease and the every more demanding performance expectations of the regulating authorities has meant that for the majority cooling water applications the continuous application of bromine has become the preferred means of microbial control.

The benefits of bromine include:

High potency as a biocide
Oxidising action so bacteria don’t develop resistance
Effective at alkaline pH’s (unlike chlorine)
Easily measured
Effective against legionella

The traditional approach to bromine dosage uses slow release tablets and a brominator, where the dosage is not only difficult to control but is also labour intensive and exposes the operator to hazardous biocide. In recent years liquid systems have been developed but these usually involving 2 separate precursors to generate the one biocide leading to the need for complex dosage and control systems (often requiring 4 separate chemicals to treat a single cooling system).

In the Bromgard development we have used novel formulation techniques to overcome these problems so that corrosion and scale control, bromine biocide and biodispersant are made available by the combined use of just 2 liquid products.

Bromgard products are available in a range of pack sizes and using the Feedsafe drumless delivery service. Whilst most existing dosing systems can be adapted to use Bromgard products, optimum performance and control is achieved by the use of a Coolplex dosing system incorporating redox control.
